Tara VanDerveer is the women’s basketball coach at Stanford University. She’s been there since 1985; her teams have routinely appeared in the women’s NCAA tournament with championships in 1990 and 1992. She took a leave of absence to coach the women’s national team at the 1996 Summer Olympics
Last night, with a win over the University of Pacific, VanDerveer passed the late Pat Summit of University of Tennessee as the coach with the most wins in women’s college basketball history.
From Lady Vol Basketball (University of Tennessee):
Pat would be proud.
Congratulations, Coach VanDerveer!

How is she celebrating that win? Per Janie McCauley of the AP on Twitter:
VanDerveer giving $10 each win — $10, 990 — to food banks. “We’re playing games & we know people are really suffering, they don’t have jobs, their unemployment is running out, they’re hungry so I’m thankful for my job & my opportunity I just want to make sure I’m giving back.”
Congratulations, Tara — and good job on giving back!
